The Dallas Foundation
Compassion Meets Action in Partnership
For nearly 100 years, The Dallas
Foundation has helped Dallas grow
stronger by bringing people, ideas,
and investments together. That same
belief in shared responsibility and
collective good is what makes its
partnership with the SPCA of Texas so
deeply rooted and enduring.
“We are delighted to partner with
the SPCA of Texas,” shared Julie
Diaz, President & CEO of The Dallas
Foundation, noting the organization’s
long history and trusted role in the
community. Both institutions were
built with a local focus and a long view,
grounded in the belief that lasting
change happens when organizations
commit deeply to the communities
they serve and remain responsive as
needs evolve.
At the heart of this partnership is a
shared understanding that animal
welfare and human wellbeing are
inseparable. “Animals are woven into
the very fabric of all of our lives,”
explained Vickie Allen, Chief Impact
Officer, Community Impact. “When
families thrive, so do their pets.”
Supporting the SPCA of Texas aligns
naturally with the Foundation’s
commitment to children, families, and
addressing critical community needs.
Pets contribute to emotional health,
stability, and connection, particularly
for children, strengthening families
and neighborhoods in meaningful
and lasting ways.
Equity has also been central to the
work the two organizations have
supported together. Since 2011, The
Dallas Foundation has invested in
initiatives such as the Companion
Animal Funders Coalition and the
Spay/Neuter Surge initiative, with a
significant focus on South Dallas.
These efforts reduced roaming animal
populations, improved public safety,
and expanded access to essential
services in communities that needed
them most. "That effort deepened
trust and changed the conversation
around companion animal care in
the targeted zip codes, building a
stronger foundation for sustained
community well-being," shared Julie,
describing it as one of the most
meaningful collaborations of the past
decade, with outcomes that could be
seen, measured, and felt across the
community.
Stewardship and trust are equally
important. The Dallas Foundation
serves donors who want their
philanthropy to be thoughtful, local,
and lasting. “Our fund holders care
very deeply about this work,” Julie
said, emphasizing the Foundation’s
confidence in the SPCA of Texas to
deliver care at the highest level. With
one of its largest funds dedicated
to companion animal welfare, the
Foundation views this partnership
as an investment in compassion,
accountability, and Dallas’ future.
Just as important as past impact is
the future these efforts are building.
“When pets are healthy, communities
are healthy,” Vickie shared, pointing to
the ripple effect that animal welfare
has on families, neighborhoods, and
the region as a whole. As the SPCA of
Texas expands its capacity and reach,
The Dallas Foundation sees a trusted
partner prepared to meet growing
needs with care, accountability, and
vision.
Looking ahead, both leaders see the
SPCA of Texas as a long-term partner
and a vital community anchor. Through
collaboration and shared values, this
partnership continues to help Dallas
thrive, for animals, people, and the
community.
